The Great Outdoors Campsite

Bordering Brittany and the Vendéen marshlands, on the Jade Coast, facing the Atlantic Ocean and adjoining the picturesque Port du Collet…

The quality of your stay at Domaine du Collet is distinctive. It is naturally spacious, and positioned within a vast estate, where lakes, prairies and woods form an original setting, flirting with the sandy dunes of the Atlantic Ocean.

Le Collet: land of history

Once up on a time, Port du Collet was a trading post for salt, serving Spain, the Netherlands and England.

At the end of the 15th century, more than 200 ships loaded their precious cargo in the ‘Bay de Brittany (as the Bay of Bourgneuf was then known) setting sail for the ports of the Baltic Sea, where a great deal of salt was consumed in the conservation of herring.

Did you know that this land, where you’ll be taking your holiday, was once trodden by illustrious personalities? We might mention, for example, Louis XIII…

Although the salt trade no longer exists today, there are still salt marshes close to Domaine du Collet; don’t miss seeing them!

Nowadays, the region’s economy and reputation is founded on aquaculture and oyster farming – in particular, Bay of Bourgneuf Oysters.

The Oyster Route, along the little roads of Collet, towards Moutiers-en-Retz or Bourgneuf, is dotted with little huts from which oyster farmers offer a taste of their oysters along with a well-chilled Muscadet.

In Collet, line fishermen will be in their element! The old Falleron lock, dating from 1879, was recently restored, and since this work was carried out, Port du Collet has been overflowing with eels and mullet.

If you dream of oceanside strolls, you’ll really enjoy the sight of the endless fishing huts on stilts that stretch from Collet to Pornic! Just add the colours of a setting sun for an absolutely unforgettable scene of serene beauty!

The estate harbours many historical remains: coats of arms, a little sculpted cherub from the old chapel…
